Set in converted vineyards close to Puy L’Eveque near Cahors is the fabulous pottery café/restaurant Le Caillau.
It’s ideal for families with the pottery painting activity to keep the kids occupied and caters well for families with babies and younger children with plenty of highchairs etc
Le Caillau is open most of the day and offers a selection of teas, freshly ground coffee, hot chocolate, soft drinks, beer, wine and of course, delicious homemade cakes.
The location really is lovely, the service very friendly and on sunny days it’s an idyllic setting. Sit outside in the courtyard for coffee and cake or lunch surrounded by the stunning vineyards or create a masterpiece in the converted barn with the kids. It also makes for a great rainy day activity for the whole family with its rural and cosy ambience.
Pottery prices range hugely but start at around 6€ for small stars and hearts, 8€ for a small mug, 10€ for a cereal bowl and 20€ for a teapot.
But remember you’ll need to pick up your creation 3 days afterwards so ensure that you squeeze this in before your return journey home!!!
If you’d prefer you can always book the babysitter and head off for evening dinner at the restaurant. The menu is both simple and imaginative with a lovely variety of dishes and more importantly food that is fresh, seasonal and locally sourced.
From scallops and seared tuna, smoked salmon with an Asian twist, goats cheese salad, chicken livers to tuna steak, rack of lamb and Thai chicken and steak and chips it’s pretty reasonable too with prices from around 6-11€ for a starter to 20€. And of course, vegetarians are catered for too with a variety of regularly changing options including rigatoni and goats cheese tart.
It’s a popular venue and therefore safer to book a table rather than risk no availability if you just turn up especially in high season- and remember we can book in advance for you!
Opening Hours are usually 10.00-5.00pm most days with the restaurant 7.00-11.00pm.
Sundays are 12.00-4.00pm
