Jill here, owner, creator and chief cook and bottle washer of my newly
formed catering service “Le Quercy Kitchen” located in the beautiful
southwest region of France, called The Lot.
For many years, catering has played a huge part in my existence. I
started out life like many, working the humdrum 9 till 5 until our children
arrived. First Georgina, then James and last but not least, Adam. Once
the terrible twos had passed in our oldest, I decided it was time to head
back to the grindstone, but this time in my real passion : Food. Creating,
tasting and eating is my mantra. Over a period of years, I built up a small
catering business in England where I made wedding and celebration
cakes whilst also supplying various outlets with smaller cakes,
sandwiches and ready-meals. My small company evolved quite suddenly
with our two new arrivals! One was a petite crêpe mobile stand (rather
ironic now isn’t it!) and the other a very large catering trailer for outdoor
events which I used to tow around the Somerset countrywide.
Fast forward to October 2007 and I’m sat in a car with sleepy children and
husband, the boot full of suitcases, driving down through France to start
our new life.
After many years of enjoying the beautiful French countryside and seeing
the children develop their language skills and grow, I decided that I
needed a new challenge, and what a challenge it is ! I was most
definitely not ready for the hoops I would have to jump through, the
paperwork I would have to file and the French I would have to speak to
get, to where I am today ! But I did, and “Le Quercy Kitchen” was born
(named after the region in France where I live).
I continue to create cakes for special occasions and weddings but I also now cater for private
groups providing 4 and 5 course menus. I have also recently started to
supply high class gite establishments with home prepared frozen ready
meals, made with fresh local produce, for those days when you just can’t
be bothered ! And yes, I can assure you, I have them too !! (my husband
lives for those days, just to get a bowl of my meatballs, yum!)
I could never have imaged my life turning out like this, living in this
stunning country and working with something that I love. All due to taking
a risk a few years ago and pushing on with what I enjoy the
the most … FOOD !
PS : On a Wednesday, I’ll be around – I’ll be the one in the bright pink top !
