Where we are – Pagel is located near Cahors in the Lot, South West France
All villages have markets, but the best ones for us are:
- Cazals – Sunday AM
- Catus – Tuesday AM
- Cahors – Wednesday & Saturday AM
- Prayssac – Friday AM
Cahors is the largest & offers the very best experience. All markets offer fresh produce and Cahors has some china, clothes & alternative stalls as well
Pagel is 2.4km away from local shops and amneties in Catus and a 20 minute drive away from Cahors which is a large town. Cazals is 10 minutes from Mas Sarrat.
The South coast is a 3 hr drive but we do have a lovely sandy beach in our local village, Catus, next to the lake. There is a great children’s play area as well as a restaurant and cafe/bar.
The Lot Region
The real France, lying a little to the south of the Dordogne is a most beautiful region of glorious sunflowers, tobacco plantation and walnut groves. The river Lot winds its way through rolling hills, with emerald meadows mingling with forests and limestone gorges, which are dotted with caves then weaves a blue ribbon through some of the oldest vineyards in France. It’s a diverse region, with inland beaches, and pretty bastide medieval towns, with castles and chateaux perched on cliff tops. The area is famous for wine, cepes, pickled walnuts, and foie gras, black truffles and other gastronomic delights.
Catus (nearest to Pagel main site)
Catus is only a few minutes drive away from Pagel and has a some excellent shops including a small supermarket, butcher, post office, bread shop, tabac, bar, restaurant and a tourist information office. Market day is every Tuesday morning and a short distance from the village is Lac Vert, a leisure lake which has a large sunbathing lawn and a small beach with a cordoned off children’s bathing area. There are bigger supermarkets and shops Cahors and Prayssac, both of which are about 20 minutes drive away.
Cahors (main town for all locations)
Is the chief town of rural Quercy and two thousand years old. It is encircled with the natural defences of the Lot river. It is a medieval town with a major wine centre. The town’s landmark site is the Pont Valentre a fortified bridge with seven pointed arches spanning the river. It is a cosmopolitan town famous for its Wednesday and Saturday morning market, dark heady wine, cafes, shops, truffle centre and Cathedral de St-Etienne.
Lherm and Cazals (For Mas sarrat)
A morning walk to the local bar/boulangerie for your bread and croissants will take you up the road from Mas Sarrat to Lherm your tiny local medieval village. Further afield but only ten minutes drive is the wonderful village of Cazals with a fabulous Sunday market, shops, Cafe de Paris and Auberge.

We had an amazing week ….with our 2 yo daughter. The setting was absolute bliss for us parents – peaceful, beautiful scenery, and plenty of lovely restaurants and local produce from the markets, not to mention the wine! Our daughter was in heaven as well. The toys are perfect for toddlers, plenty of new stories to read at bedtime, swings and a slide, a ‘little house’ in the garden, and the pool! Everything was set up perfectly for a completely stress-free holiday with young children. The on-site staff were so helpful, and the BBQ at Mas was a great afternoon out… We cannot wait to return, and are already making plans for 2 weeks next year!
All home safe and well if a little sad to leave Pagel behind! We had a fabulous time, Pagel and the area is truly beautiful. The kids had a ball and the little touches made it very special. All the people who work to bring it all together do a wonderful job and are all so friendly and welcoming……What a great team you have and a magical place you have created.
Pagel is a once in a lifetime find. High class relaxation, in a friendly and safe environment with beautiful surroundings. The Pagel crew have thought of everything to ensure that the parents have just as good a time as the kids. On arriving recently for our second time, my husband said, ‘it’s good to be home’. I second that and can’t wait to return. (and we never go back to the same place twice!) Well done Pagel crew, we ‘heart’ you.
